Classic cinema and some blog serves as both a guide and an introduction for anyone interested in discovering and enjoying the world of classic cinema. Each week (currently every other Tuesday), I’ll highlight one film for you to watch, sharing background information beforehand and, at times, a follow-up section for after you’ve seen it (which may contain spoilers). This curated list of films will be continually updated, and I plan to keep adding titles for as long as possible. SUBSCRIBE BELOW so you never miss a new post. To explore the films in the order they’ve been featured, scroll to the bottom of this page (or click THE MOVIES link at the top) and start with film #1 – All About Eve – then work your way forward.

If you’ve already seen some of these titles, I strongly encourage you to revisit them. Our perceptions evolve over time, and you’re bound to notice details you missed before—often gaining a deeper appreciation and fresh perspective. A true classic can be enjoyed endlessly. I’ve often rewatched films I once disliked only to realize I now adore them (and the reverse has happened, too).

My focus spans from the early days of Classic cinema up through the 1970s, with a special emphasis on the Golden Age of Hollywood (which wrapped up in the 1960s). I’ll also include selections from the vibrant second wave of classic American filmmaking in the late ’60s and ’70s, along with notable international works.

The movies are not ranked from best to worst, but arranged to provide a rich, varied, and engaging journey through film history. Most will be in black and white, though many will be in color. You’ll find some you love, some you don’t, and hopefully many you’ll be thrilled to discover. Each week will bring something new—from different genres to iconic performances, celebrated stars, visionary directors, and influential cinematographers and writers. While no one can see every classic film ever made, each selection here will highlight at least one significant element of cinematic art.

Throughout my life, many people have asked me how to get started with Classic cinema, or have sought recommendations for old Hollywood stars and directors. I’ve guided countless newcomers and have yet to meet someone who didn’t find the experience rewarding and eye-opening. Friends and acquaintances often turn to me for suggestions, given my extensive film background (you can read more about that HERE). After years of creating personalized lists and hosting movie nights, I decided to launch this blog to share my passion more widely. My aim is to help open minds and hearts to the brilliance of great films—perfect for anyone who wants to expand their cinematic knowledge and enjoyment.

For the richest and most well-rounded experience, I recommend watching the films in the sequence I’ve arranged. They’ll be numbered for clarity, and I’ve placed them in that specific order as a kind of cinematic syllabus—the commentary accompanying each film will build upon what came before. Ideally, you might choose a dedicated “movie night” each week (whether with friends, family, a partner, or just for yourself) and enjoy each film in turn. Of course, you can adjust the pace to suit your own schedule. Back in my college days, I was a regular at a repertory Classic cinema, catching anywhere from three to eight movies a week—it was pure bliss.

I can’t promise every single title is currently easy to find, but I’ve selected films that I personally own on Blu-ray or DVD, so they’ve definitely been publicly available at some point. Today, you might come across them on streaming platforms, Turner Classic cinema, The Criterion Channel, Amazon, Netflix, at your local library, or even as an inexpensive disc on eBay. And if one of these titles shows up in a theater near you—don’t miss it! The experience of watching a film on the big screen, surrounded by strangers, is entirely different from viewing it on an iPad, phone, or even a large TV. These works were created for Classic cinema screens, where the director can guide your attention to specific details rather than letting you take in the entire frame at once. Seeing them this way deepens everything—the performances, cinematography, directing, lighting, and small details. That said, if the theater option isn’t available, watch them however you can—the important thing is to see them.
